to let you know that Cheerios, as Barkley is now known, is doing
very well.  As you can see from the pics, he has found some of
          the
choicest spots in the house to have a snooze.

          But
don't let that fool you!  He is quite active and chipper and
enjoys our long walks with his two new Basset "sisters" and (slightly)
          older Lab "brother".

          My vet
found he had been suffering from a skin infection and we are
working on clearing that up so he won't be so itchy all the time.
I will also try to put some weight on the skinny fellow!

          People
love him - and his new name - wherever he goes and he is a great pet.
          Thanks!

Update
          May '11 ...

Thought I would send this pic of two of your "graduates" of a few
years ago who now live with me:  Ellie-Mae and Cheerios (formerly
Barkley).  Both continue to do very well.  Cheery has proven
to be a real character.  From having patchy hair with rough red
spots, his coat has recovered to be beautifully long and lush (for a
basset) with a funny big brown spot on his tummy.  Super dogs
          both - thank you!
