          I
would like to thank the SPCA so much for allowing us to adopt Spike.
Even though we went to the shelter intending to adopt a doberman
pinscher, I am so happy that we chose differently and decided upon
this lovely, two year old German Shepherd mix.  The two hour
drive was worth it for he has been an absolute dream to have.

          Spike
loves to follow me around during the day and lay at my feet, but when
I disturb his sleep he gives me this look (as shown in the picture)
that is just hilarious.  He's been amazing with our three cats
(even if the cats don't really like him yet) and he gets along great
with our beagle, something we had been worried about.  They
bonded the moment he got out of the truck after bringing him home.

          He
loves to chew everything and he's gone through more toys than I can
count.  We've learned not to trust when the manufacturers say the
toys are for "tough chewers", because they are no match for Spike.
We've tried to enforce him sleeping on his bed, which he does, but he
seems to like sleeping everywhere he can fit such as couches,
ottomans, beds, chairs; everywhere you wouldn't except a dog his size
to fit, he manages to squeeze onto.

          Now
that we've bought him a Halti harness he's been amazing to walk.
When we first got him he pulled my arms off, but the harness keeps him
calmer than any dog.  We're walking him every day and running
with him through our one acre of land, but he is not quick to tire.
He keeps playing until well into the night.

          I'm so
happy to have adopted Spike.  He's been a fantastic, albeit
energetic, dog and I can't wait to see what the rest of his years
          hold.
