          As
promised, I've finally sat down to update you on Sophie (formerly
Lucie) the Basenji mix.  She came into our lives in February
2008, only weeks after we lost our 12-year-old Wheaten, Sonny.
Sophie was sweet from the first moment but was also very, very scared
of pretty well everything, from walking on leash, to going through
doorways, to barking dogs, to cars (both moving and parked), to even
stepping foot off the couch, her chosen "home base."

          It
took a long time and lots of love and confidence-building but
eventually the "little red dog" I met at your shelter blossomed into
Miss Congeniality of Bruce Pit, where she now spends hours playing
with any dog who's willing, and charming everyone she meets (most of
whom say she "looks just like a fox").

Sophie is now almost 2.5 years old and still loves to wrestle and play
with puppies; it seems she's now living the puppyhood she missed out
on for her first year, before she became part of our family.  She
is the light of my life - as smart and gentle and sweet and funny as a
dog can be.  I can't imagine my world without her.  Thank
you so much for finding her for us.

Here are some pictures taken earlier this year, of Sophie frolicking
          through her first happy winter!

          With
gratitude for the important work you do,

          Debra
          and family
