Ryan

My name is Ryan and I am a husky mix.  I am 5.5 months old.  I'm a lucky boy.  I was adopted from the SPCA in Aylmer yesterday and I love my new home and my new family.  My mommy and daddy love me so much.  I love to play
in my yard and at the park, go for walks and car rides and cuddle!

I am a very spoiled dog ... I have a nice loving home, lots of toys, a beautiful new bed, lots of play time, I get fresh air whenever I want and I even got to sleep in my mommy and daddy's room last night with them because I couldn't stand to be in the spare room away from them even though it is just one room away.  I want to be close to my new owners.  They don't seem to mind.  Even though I weigh about 35-40 pounds, I think I am a lap dog and I'll sit on you if you let me.

I am very smart.  In just one day, I am already learning new things quickly like how to walk without dragging my owners down the street and where I go to the bathroom.  I love exploring.  I discovered something really strange last night ... mommy says it's only my reflection in the mirror, but I'm not quite sure about it yet.  They think it's adorable, but I'm confused.  I'm fitting right in and feel at home already!  My mommy and daddy have done a good job welcoming me.

They already put my picture in their family portraits frame! (can you spot me?)  Can't wait to meet all of you! (I'm a good boy, you don't have to worry about me jumping on you, but I might give you lots of kisses because I love people!)  I already got to meet my memere and pepere last night!  They're nice.  They came over for a short visit just to see me! :)

Bye for now!  I have a feeling I'll write again because mommy and daddy love taking pictures of me!

Update May '13

It's been a little while, so I wanted to give you an update on Ryan.  He is
doing very well and has adjusted to our home and family very quickly.  It feels like he's been a member all along!  He is so sweet and adorable and loves to cuddle with us.  He has grown a bit.  When I took him to the vet in our first week of the adoption, he weighed 31 pounds.  When I took him back a month later on May 1st for his booster, he was 35 pounds.  He is a bit taller.  He might be closer to 40 pounds now.  He still thinks he is a lap dog and loves to sit on us.  He is going to Pet Smart on the weekend to get groomed! :)   I wonder how he will be.  He is pretty good for baths at home.  He jumped out of the tub the first time soaking wet.  I had to put his leash on him and then he enjoyed the bath.

Ryan is still mischievous at times (as puppies tend to be), but he makes us laugh every day with his silliness!  The only complaint I have is that I have to sweep the house every couple of days!  But I can live with that.

He is doing well with keeping his nibbling under control.  He was nibbling me quite a bit and saying no or ouch was not working.  I would also give him a toy to bite (he has SO many toys!), but he would still bite me to play.  It was getting out of hand and the more I would say no or ouch to correct him, the more he wanted to bark and bite me.

I really wanted to get him out of the biting so I decided to try using a spray bottle with water.  I spray him once when he bites me and he stops immediately.  I only had to use it a few times.  Now he does not try to bite me very often and when he does, I get the spray bottle and he stops without me having to use it.  I thought it was a very fair punishment for the biting to teach him that it is bad.  I do not believe in physical punishment.  It has worked wonderfully!  That was his only fault and now he seems to have stopped the biting! :)

He has never been in his crate for more than 4 hours at a time.  Shawn comes home on his lunch hour and takes him out.  He is pretty spoiled, but much loved.  I have attached some pictures of our little guy for all of you at the shelter.  We are very happy he chose us and thank you very much for our boy! :)  I will keep in touch and update you on Ryan's progress!

Update December '13

It's been awhile since I've written to update you wonderful people at the SPCAWQ about Ryan, so I thought I'd send you another e-mail with pictures since I promised that I would keep in touch.  I adopted Ryan, a husky mix, in March.  I don't know if you remember him as I'm sure you've seen MANY dogs since.  He was with you for a few months, so I'm assuming you probably do remember him.

(Here is a picture of the two of us lounging around - he is SO cuddly!)

He has been doing SO well at our home!  As you know, he adjusted amazingly when we first adopted him.  He instantly became part of the family and in no time it felt like we had always had him with us since we couldn't imagine life before Ryan.  He was mouthing quite a bit for a few months (I had written about that in my last two e-mails).  He has completely grown out of it!  It just took time and patience.

(Here he is after he was groomed ... I wanted to get a picture of the handsome boy!)

He is spoiled rotten, but he deserves it as he is so sweet and so loving.  We are extremely happy with him and couldn't ask for a better dog!  This summer, I registered him at the dog park in Cornwall (where we live) and Ryan has become friends with the other dogs there!  He is SO good with all dogs and plays really nicely with them.  He has a good social life! :)

(This is from his first birthday!  He turned 1 in October and I made him some doggy cupcakes.  Don't worry, he shared with his friends, he didn't eat the whole batch of cupcakes himself!)

This is the most recent, from when he went to meet Santa on the weekend!!!

Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Update September '20

Ryan is doing very well! We have a four year old son who is Ryan's (or as we've nicknamed him, Rybear) best buddy! And we just welcomed a new baby girl at the end of July whom Ryan is obsessed with! He is still very spoiled with lots of love, cuddles, treats and walks! He has a girlfriend right next door to us that he also loves to play with (a Bermese mountain dog). I don't know what I would have done the last 7 and a half years without Ryan... he's my loyal protector and very best friend. He reminds us of "nanny" from Peter Pan because he's so good with the kids and just always wants to help! I cannot thank you enough for this wonderful family member you have given us!

Attached are some recent pictures of our Rybear... he saw a wild turkey yesterday!
