Molly is a 15 month old
American Foxhound.  We adopted Molly when she was 8 months old.
Hounds are typically stubborn dogs and Molly is no exception.  She
wanted to be leader of the pack but we worked with a trainer who
patiently helped us through basic obedience training.  Molly responded
to the commands very well and in no time at all she was walking
properly on a leash and responded immediately to the sit and stay
commands.  However, being a hound, Molly’s recall was challenging.
She can cover a lot of territory very quickly.  The trainer worked
with us using an electronic collar and it has made all the
difference.  We spend a lot time in the back country of Algonquin Park
and on the Trans Canada Trail west of Ottawa and we no longer have to
worry about losing Molly.  She now responds very well to the beeper on
the collar and our adventures are stress free and enjoyable.

Molly
likes to be very comfortable when she is resting.  She thinks
of herself as a little lap dog and loves to snuggle under a blanket,
particularly since the cold weather has arrived.  She is very playful
and loves to be chased.  She also enjoys tug of war and fetch although
she hasn’t quite got the concept of giving up the ball so you can
throw it again.  Chasing is better apparently.  She is great with
other dogs and she has a regular group of friends at the dog park.
Molly has recently experienced snow for the first time.  She seems a
bit puzzled by it and the fact that it makes her feet cold.  She has
tried eating it, digging it, and rolling in it.  I wish I could
harness some of that energy to help us shovel it!
