Australian Shepherd blue merle male, 2 yrs, adopted December 2018. I
thought you might like to know how things are going with this adopted
Aussie, Merlin. He is turning out to be a great dog and I am very glad
to have him.
Initially, he required a lot of training and exercise. He seemed to
know only "sit" and "lie down" and had a lot of nervous energy. Since
I am recently retired and live on a lake with 50 acres, it is easy to
exercise him: we go for 2 - 2.5 hours per day and work on commands for
15 to 20 minutes. He has settled down a lot and learned basic
obedience. I grew up in a home with field trial dogs and so know how
to train. I have a senior female Aussie, they get along well. I don't
think he was very used to the countryside and cats, but it did not
take long for him to learn to not eat the cats or the cat food, and to
stay away from porcupines and such.
I
ponder a lot about his past and would sure like to know how he ended
up in a Kansas "kill shelter". He has a wonderful personality and is
so beautiful, show quality really.
I
am looking into agility and will try him on that.
Thanks for the opportunity to own this fantastic dog. Here's a few
photos.
