          I
first saw Maddie (then known as Kelly) on the SPCA website on a
Saturday evening in September.  I couldn’t go take a look at her until
the following Monday, so I had to anxiously wait for the weekend to
pass.  We arrived at the SPCA just as the doors opened that Monday and
as we pulled into the parking lot she was the first thing we saw.  We
fell in love with those beautiful, but sad, brown eyes immediately.
It was definitely love at first sight for us.  We consider ourselves
very lucky because by the time we were finished with our first outdoor
introduction there were already 3 other people waiting to take a look
at her too.  Once all the papers were signed I took my very skinny 11
pound Great Dane mix and headed home.  It wasn’t long before we
noticed that our beautiful little girl was very sick.  After a quick
trip to the vet we figured out that she had two different stomach
parasites and was getting very little nourishment from any food she
ingested.  With lots of TLC, medication and many small ‘accidents’ our
sick, skinny, little 11 pound Maddie has grown into the 90 pound beast
that you see before you now.  The rest, as they say, is history…

          Maddie
is a gentle giant.  She is so calm and well behaved that she amazes
most of our houseguests!!  She enjoys walking, playing in the park
with other dogs and especially playing with her ‘big’ brother Bo.  She
also enjoys attending obedience classes and will be starting
intermediate training very soon.  She is a very intelligent and
curious ‘little’ girl so things come fairly easily for her when treats
          are involved.
          J
She is a very healthy and energetic girl, but loves to curl up on the
floor, in positions that would make any yoga instructor proud, and
          just sleep the day away.

          We
would like to thank you for giving us the opportunity to welcome such
an amazing animal into our home.  Maddie has found a definite place
there as well as in our hearts.

          Just
so you know…those sad little eyes that we fell in love with no longer
exist.  They are now eyes filled with the happiness, love and
contentment of a girl who has found her true ‘forever’ home.  We are
truly blessed that you found her and took care of her until we got
          there!! J

          Thank
you so much for your time and effort,

          Update July ’11 …

          Maddie
is fantastic.  She makes me smile every day.  :)

Here are some pics from a road trip she and I made back to
Newfoundland to visit my parents.  It was their first time meeting
          their granddaughter.  :)
