Here
are some photos of Brodie, our new friend who came to us from the SPCA
of Western Quebec in September. In these pictures, he's at the barn
where he goes out to see his horse friend Charlie, whom he tries to
herd and runs after on the 400 acres of trails on the property. He has
learned (more or less) not to chase the other horses or go into their
paddocks, but he did get into some trouble at first for doing that.
I
think I can safely say that he is enjoying his new life and that we
are enjoying him. The only issue we are still grappling with is his
tremendous separation anxiety. He is extremely bonded to me and gets
pretty upset when I leave the house. When I start to get ready to
leave, put on my coat, take my purse, he starts freaking out, whining,
jumping, etc. and my daughter tells me that when I'm not home, he
walks around crying and looking for me. This is undoubtedly due to the
fact that he was abandoned or due to whatever happened to him in his
old life.
I
have been doing a lot of reading on separation anxiety and how to
tackle it, so hopefully we will be able to help him work out his
issues. But you don't have to worry that we will be bringing him back
to you guys! No way. He's a very loving fellow and we are very happy
to have him in our lives. He's incredibly athletic, loves to run in
the park, and is very obedient and eager to please.
I'm
sending you a set of pictures where he jumped right up a tree chasing
a squirrel. He took a bit of a face plant coming down but bounced
right back. Sometimes, he's a real goof! So keep up the good work with
the knowledge that your hard efforts with Brodie have paid off.
Merry Christmas!
Brodie gives new meaning to squirrel chasing!
